Our Favorite Conversation Starters
The focus of the 2023 conversations are centered upon the importance of water and local watersheds in the Great Marsh- from rain, to faucets, to endangered rivers. How does water connect us as humans, and how can we take better care of our local waterways? As we move into our sixth official year, we've put together a list of our favorite conversation starters to help each other - and you - start meaningful conversations with community members, peers, colleagues, and family.
Hannah's Conversation Starter
Where are you from?
This is a pretty basic question, however I personally feel like place plays a major role in identity and actually captures a lot of who we are as people. It's where we form communities, where we live/grew up, it can shape our interests and our perception of the world and others. Connecting with another person through a home place also opens up the possibility for common ground/shared experiences. Maybe you've been to that place, you have a friend who lives there, you want to go there someday, etc. Place helps us to relate to one another.
Tessa's Conversation Starter
What's your mindfulness routine?
The answer to this question says a lot about a person. It can uncover their interests, parts of their personality (are they type A or type B?), their outlook on life, and whether they value themself. My philosophy is: if a person doesn't know how to take care of themselves yet, they won't be able to provide support for me.
Ella's Conversation Starter
How can we further youth involvement in the climate movement?
Although geared toward students, this question is applicable to all. How would you look to engage a younger mindset in forming a better, safer future for all? Do you believe that the foundation of involvement is centered in childhood, or in education? By discussing subjects like this, actions will be taken to involve the next generation of change makers.
